What is the best way to clean and seal the wood in a sauna?
The sauna is older & the wood is very dirty, primarily dust and sweat. I'm thinking about a light sanding with a hand held vibrating sander and would like to follow up with a wood protectant to make cleaning easier but I have no idea what to use.

- I don't know how to clean it, but I am pretty sure you don't want to seal it in any way. The wood is left 'open' for a reason.
- Hi there. I have been a sauna lover and builder for many years. In response to your question may I suggest you clean it with water, a plastic bristle brush , dish detergent, and maybe a bit of bleach. The reason to leave the wood untreated is so that the aroma of cedar will fill the room and also it you varathane or seal the surfuce the finish will attract heat and the bench surfaces will be too hot to sit on. The exposed wood acts a heat sink and does not get too hot. Hope this helps.
