Sauna

How long can I safely spend in a sauna?

I got a nasty cold now and spent an hour sitting on the lower bench of a sauna yesterday. Temp was probably 120-30 down there and had plenty of water.

  1. Well, the official sites and doctors will say something like, "Not more than fifteen minutes at a time!" But really, you can stay in until YOU feel like you need to get out. I mean, you were in there an hour, and nothing happened, right? How about this: Go in for an hour, and in that hour, drink at least 2 of those little water bottles. That sounds pretty safe to me, considering it's 120 degrees in Australia, and people LIVE there.
  2. I worked in the engine room on a steam ship around Guam in the summer. Anywhere near the boiler was around 150', otherwise it was closer to 125. We were told to go sit in the freezer for awhile if we stopped sweating profusely. Otherwise it was GET TO WORK YOU LAZY BUM!!!!
